For over twenty years, Guido Baselgia has been devoting himself to peripheral vegetation zones in the Alps, in northern Norway and in the Andes. In the Amazon basin, he photographed a habitat that is omnipresent in the collective visual memory and currently in the spotlight of climate-policy debates, due to its acute endangerment.
This wooden structure, diagonally spiralling through the image space, looks like it has been carefully turned. Baselgia found it in the jungle’s undergrowth. Using photographic means, he gives it a presence reminiscent of Karl Blossfeldt’s Art Forms in Nature from the 1920s. A masterpiece of nature has been detached from its environment and transformed into an image.
