Since the early 1970s, Christian Vogt has repeatedly attracted considerable attention with his creative inventiveness, his masterful handling of the photographic medium, and his subjective view of both the world and himself.
This picture is from Photographic Notes, a work comprising images and text, which began in 1981. With the handwritten caption “about the price of freedom of not belonging anywhere”, Vogt alludes to his own (often difficult) situation as an independent photographer, to the precarious balancing act between art and life that he (like probably all artists) performs on a daily basis.
