Photography collection of the Swiss Confederation Archive and Collections
Fotostiftung Schweiz maintains an inventory of over 2000 photographs purchased and collected by the Swiss Confederation. These include works by young photographers who received a grant via the Federal Design Competition (formerly the Applied Art Grant) between 1985 and 2000, as well as groups of works by established photographers that had been acquired by the confederation up until 2012. The resulting collection is extremely heterogeneous and shows a broad cross-section of Swiss photography from recent decades – ranging from documentary to conceptual photography and from experimental to artistic projects. One comprehensive group of vintage prints by Robert Frank is particularly outstanding. The photography collection of the Swiss Confederation is on permanent loan to Fotostiftung Schweiz.
