A Show of Affection – Collection Constellation 1
Guest exhibition of Fotomuseum Winterthur
Fotomuseum Winterthur is taking the opportunity presented by the institution’s thirtieth anniversary to examine its own collection, which contains around 9000 photographic objects including photographs, documents, installation works and moving images. Examples of works by international artists, spanning the period from the 1960s to the present day, provide insight into the museum’s collecting activities. The non-linear way in which the exhibition is presented highlights the fact that the (progressive) development of a collection is influenced by a variety of different factors. These include the exhibition programme, thematic photography’s own process of evolution. The exhibition is also an expression of an institutional approach: The museum’s collection practice is eminently (self-)critical – and yet imbued with a sense of affection. Constellation 1 kicks off a series of presentations on the collection that build on one another and are designed for different international venues.
With works by: Vito Acconci, Stefan Burger, Forensic Architecture, Lee Friedlander, Matthias Gabi, Nan Goldin, Roc Herms, Jacob Holdt, Margret Hoppe, Graciela Iturbide, Sherrie Levine, Clunie Reid, Shirana Shahbazi, Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson, Garry Winogrand and others.
Please note: Due to the renovation of Fotomuseum Winterthur, the exhibition will be shown in the spaces of Fotostiftung Schweiz at Grüzenstrasse 45.
