Born in 1971, the Swiss photographer of Italian descent Giuseppe Micciché grew up in Winterthur and now lives in Zürich. He recently attracted attention with a work entitled No ponte – a long-term study of a gigantic prestige project in southern Italy. The photograph Torre Faro from this series shows a detail of a building marked by the ravages of time.
“The idea of a bridge between the shores of Calabria and Sicily has occupied the minds of the inhabitants for generations,” says Micciché, who has repeatedly travelled to this region to explore the interfaces between desire and reality. The highest and longest suspension bridge project in the world, in which billions have already been invested, has left many traces. But more than anything else, they bear witness to standstill and waiting. Seen in this light, Micciché’s work is more than just a portrait of a particular region.
