Shane Lavalette has made a name for himself with a sensitive impressionistic visual language that is often also inspired by music. He likes to interweave his images to create a subjective journey, enchantingly harmonising the outside world with his inner feelings.
This photograph was taken as part of the project Unfamiliar Familiarities: Outside Views on Switzerland, which Fotostiftung Schweiz and Musée de l’Elysée jointly invited five international artists from different continents to participate in. The project took Lavalette across Switzerland, as he followed in the footsteps of photographer Theo Frey (1908–1997). His view of the near and the far opens our eyes to quiet hidden poetry.
